ESD betyder elektrostatisk afladning

Det er også det, man ofte kalder (elektrisk) stød, som du fx kan få når du giver en anden person hånden, eller rører ved et håndtag. I virkeligheden er der tale om en gnist, der springer fra en ladet overflade til en anden ledende overflade, også kaldet statisk elektricitet. ESD fodtøj hjælper dig med at mindske den elektriske opladning som giver dig stød, når det bliver afladt fordi du rører noget.

Er statisk elektricitet farligt?

Udover at det kan gøre ondt, og man bliver forskrækket, er det ikke farlig for mennesker. Problemet opstår hvis den gnist der udløses kommer i kontakt med fx brandfarlige væsker eller materialer, eller følsom elektronik. Så kan det være farligt eller ødelægge elektronikken. Det anbefales derfor, at du bruger fodtøj med ESD, hvis du arbejder i områder, hvor gnister kan antænde brændbare substanser og dampe, for eksempel i EX miljøer. Eller hvis du arbejder med elektriske apparater eller andre elektriske ladede dele.

ESD fodtøj løser ikke alle problemer

ESD fodtøj er dog ikke en fuldstændig beskyttelse mod stød, men den afhjælper det. For at opnå den bedste beskyttelse bør du også bruge ESD handsker og beklædning. Og vær opmærksom på, at der skal bruges ESD sokker for at have den bedste kontakt med sål eller bare fødder. Indersålen i skoen skal også være af en type, der er testet med den pågældende sko i henhold til DS/EN 61340-5-1.

Faktorer der reducerer ESD effekten

Du skal være opmærksom på, at ESD fodtøjets virkning kan ændre sig betragteligt ved bøjning, for meget snavs, fugtighed eller temperaturskift. Derudover kan de fysiske omgivelser også spille ind – fx gulvbelægning, måtter og beklædning m.m.

D-S har beskæftiget sig med ESD i mange årtier, og har derfor en stor viden og et bredt program af personlige ESD værnmidler til industrien, samt produkter til EX miljøer. Fx ESD åndedrætsværn, lygter, fodtøj, måtter, absorbenter, handsker, beklædning og øjenværn.
